MISSIONARIES WE SUPPORT

The Healthy Mums Project was started in 2008 in the Kigeme Diocese, Rwanda. Kigeme Health Centre was chosen as a pilot site for the project and a nurse, Dancilla was hired to coordinate the project at the centre. Funds have been raised by the ACIC (Anglican Coalition in Canada) team to cover the wages for the nurse and the cost of providing a goat or a pig for the poorest mothers to assist with their nutritional needs. The goal is to provide expertise and support to mothers during their pregnancy so there would be more opportunities for the delivery of a healthy baby. This expertise is provided by the nurse who meet with the mothers individually and train a team of volunteers from the local Mothers Union in prenatal health and baby care, and visit the mothers in their homes.
